Worcester & Chew Valley U11
U11 : vs Worcester (A) P2 W2 L0 D0 Sun 07-Feb-2010

After a long period of weather-enforced inactivity it was a bonus for the boys to be playing not only Worcester, but also a touring team from Chew Valley. The first match of the triangular competition saw us watch Worcester beat the tourists before facing the home team in the next match. Worcester are always strong opposition and despite a lack of recent matches the boys started solidly. In the muddy conditions good forward pressure by Bredon saw the ball moved out to Kieran Brooks who sprinted clear to touch down in the corner and score the only try of the half. Shortly after the restart Joss Edwards collected the ball on the half way line, skillfully chipped over the defence and caught the ball to score under the posts to give a deserved final score of 14-0.
The second match against Chew Valley was an exciting game with Bredon dominating early on before the tourists rallied strongly. An early penalty following a good break by Fraser Cox saw Matthew Dickens go over. However a penalty for offside was then advanced 10m by the referee for indiscipline which gave the Chew Valley forwards the opportunity to equalise. Bredon quickly hit back with a second try as the ball was moved slickly down the back line for Kieran to grab his second try of the day as he finished the move off well in the corner. A third try followed before half time as Shea Danter made a great interception and ran in from his own half. The second half was a different story as Chew Valley started to dominate both in the scrum and at the breakdown. They scored two tries before Dylan Moss showed his strength to widen the scoreline but a final breakout and try from the Bristol boys gave them their fourth try of the match, with only a missed conversion giving us a narrow 28-26 win. There are still some areas to be worked on, particularly at the breakdown, but with so little rugby having been played the boys can be very pleased with an excellent morning's work
